Here are a few questions that other folks have asked about Juice Tyme’s delicious line of juices and beverages. If your question isn’t answered here, feel free to contact us.
What is a mix ratio?
The mix ratio tells you the quantity of water added to an amount of juice concentrate to yield a finished product. For example 3+1 can be read as three parts water to one part concentrate.
What does “Brix” mean?
Brix is the weight of sugar in a juice as a percentage of the juice’s total weight. All juices have naturally occurring sugar. A juice’s brix level is measured with a refractometer to make sure the dispenser is adding the correct amount of water and juice. If the brix is off, the nutritional value of the product changes.
Each type of juice has its own brix, or level of sweetness, because some fruits contain more sugar than others. The brix levels for 100% juices are set by the Federal Government. For example, the brix for orange juice is 11.8; the brix for grape juice is 16.
What is a refractometer?
A refractometer is an instrument used to measure the index of refraction of a substance. Juice Tyme uses a refractometer to measure the brix, or sugar concentration, of our juices and beverages.
Are Juice Tyme products Kosher?
Yes, many of our products are Kosher certified by the Chicago Rabbinical Council. See a copy of our Kosher certificate and a list of our Kosher-certified products here.
Does Juice Tyme 100% Juice contain added sugar?
No, our 100% Juices get all their delicious sweetness from the fruit it came from, with no added sugar.
Are Juice Tyme Iced Tea products caffeinated?
All of our tea products are decaffeinated (with the exception of our Green Tea with Honey and Ginseng, which contains a small amount of caffeine).
Are any of your products ready to drink or use?
All of Juice Tyme’s products are concentrated (with the exception of some of our cocktail products), which require some simple preparation before serving. Because our products contain less water, we are able to provide our customers a lower cost per ounce.
What is the difference between 100% Orange Juice and Orange Juice that is 100% juice?
100% Orange Juice is juice made only from the concentrate of oranges. Orange Juice that is 100% juice contains a blend of orange concentrate and another juice, like apple or white grape. Both are 100% juice and contain no added sugar.
What are thickened liquids or thickened water?
People with swallowing disorders, like dysphagia, typically are prescribed thickened liquid diets by their doctor or Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The thickened liquids help to slow the swallowing process so liquid does not enter the person’s lungs (aspiration) or cause choking.
There are 4 different levels of thickness:
Thin liquids – like water and juice
Nectar liquids – like peach or apricot nectar
Honey-thick liquids – similar to the consistency of honey
Pudding thick – very viscous, like a drinkable yogurt
